Thinking about getting a Prado

Post by vr_driver » Tue Apr 03, 2018 11:06 pm

Hi all.

I know it's only a small community here so far, but I've got a 2003 Commodore Wagon, and it's great, but... she's done about 300k and it's time to get another car, that's a bit safer, and higher up off the ground.

Has anyone got a Prado? Any buying tips? I'm thinking maybe the 2009 diesel model,,,

Hi Steve,

I have a 2014 Triton duel cab diesel, my close friend has a 2008 Prado.

He says:
- Buy GXL not GX (nice little extra bits, genuine tow pack etc etc)
- Buy diesel for sure
- Look for something under 240K you will get 140K before you have to spend real money
- Look for one thats had the suspension done within the last three or so years and a timing belt since its a 100K belt.
- If your going off road for awhile at a time check for a catch can and secondary fuel filter / snorkel.

What is the reason for wanting one?

Hi Dex,
I think I should have set the notifications on this post to be subscribed. Clearly I hadn't! haha.
Yeah, I'd be thinking the GLX model of the GX, as the GX seems to be the base model.
I'm not specifically thing about getting on for off-roading much (believe it or not). I've got my wagon, and it's great, but when I drive around and realise how low I am, I think "Hmmm.... I wouldn't want to get hit by a ute, or a 4WD". So, it's more of a safety thing. The diesels are just as fuel efficient as the VY, so I wouldn't really by losing out on economy.
But, it's more of a dream right now as I just have a good look around.

I can understand that, i sit quite high in my Triton compared to most people in the city. But i commute on a Ninja so not so much. I believe spatial awareness is key and driving to the conditions of the road. Mind you that wont help when someone runs a red light or just decides to look at there phone for some reason. So i guess i get your point, which is why the family is not allowed on the bike.
